Raising Market Share: Who spearheads the effort? Who can help?

The Raising Market Share for Jazz Initiative is led by a core group of individuals and organizations committed to increasing exposure and funding for Jazz music. The primary voice behind this blog comes from MCG Jazz. MCG Jazz and Jazz Alliance International are the 2 driving forces behind the organization and planning efforts for Jazz at Wingspread. We receive help and guidance from many other sources, including other jazz organizations, independent consultants, and jazz loyalists.

We hope that through communicating our efforts via the web and other media we can actively solicit your input. We're looking for your suggestions, thoughts, and even critique as we move forward with this effort, please see our previous posts regarding what we've done so far, and where we're headed. We're also hoping you'll lend us a hand through shared resources, promotional partnerships, and other support.

Get involved in this effort.

An Update on Jazz at Wingspread 2005 - what next?

At the 2005 Raising Market Share for Jazz Conference, there was overwhelming agreement to move forward with three programs on behalf of the industry, specifically:

* to create an umbrella branding identity for the jazz industry , repositioning the music in a way to invite new audiences

* to develop a national jazz sponsorship platform as a vehicle to aggregate audiences from various organizations into a year-round national package for sponsors, building the jazz brand through partnering with like-minded national sponsors.

* to build a low-cost grassroots network of students, musicians, and jazz loyalists to help generate interest in jazz through their online, college, and local communities

In the first half of 2006, the group plans to test brand statements and campaigns in specific markets, and to move forward in expanding the "gotjazz" branding campaign through website development at www.gotjazz.info.

There is also significant progress in bringing to market a national concert package to invite larger national sponsors to support jazz music.

What are your ideas on moving the music forward? Do you have resources that may help in raising the market share for jazz? Post to our blog or email us at raisingmktshare4jazz [ AT ] mcg-btc.org.

Raising Market Share for Jazz: Why Now?

The first Raising Market Share for Jazz conference was held from May 24-26, 2005 in Racine, WI at the beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright home Wingspread. The first in a series of 3 annual conferences, it explored action plans to raise awareness for jazz as a brand through collaboration and brand partnering.

Though the art of jazz continues to grow, investments, market share, and audience development opportunities for jazz have stagnated over the last 20 years. There is a growing belief among industry leaders, however, that the jazz-friendly market is bigger than CD sales or festival attendance numbers suggest. Education is one way today we are broadening awareness. There is an urgent need, however, to develop comprehensive audience expansion and market growth programs, and the underlying revenue and funding models to sustain them with new public/private partnerships.

During the first 3-day conference, we blogged the activities of the conference in real time. The archive of this blog is coming back on line soon. Participants in the conference included jazz musicans, industry leaders, and key supporters from multiple sectors.

Bookmark this blog site for updates on next steps in the process, and information on the next Raising Market Share for Jazz gathering, scheduled for May 23-25, 2006.
