Raising Market Share for Jazz: Why Now?

The first Raising Market Share for Jazz conference was held from May 24-26, 2005 in Racine, WI at the beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright home Wingspread. The first in a series of 3 annual conferences, it explored action plans to raise awareness for jazz as a brand through collaboration and brand partnering.

Though the art of jazz continues to grow, investments, market share, and audience development opportunities for jazz have stagnated over the last 20 years. There is a growing belief among industry leaders, however, that the jazz-friendly market is bigger than CD sales or festival attendance numbers suggest. Education is one way today we are broadening awareness. There is an urgent need, however, to develop comprehensive audience expansion and market growth programs, and the underlying revenue and funding models to sustain them with new public/private partnerships.

During the first 3-day conference, we blogged the activities of the conference in real time. The archive of this blog is coming back on line soon. Participants in the conference included jazz musicans, industry leaders, and key supporters from multiple sectors.
